Classrooms

About this space

On a Tuesday or Wednesday the classrooms at Farmington Hills are filled with the voices of people trying to learn to speak English.

Many people from around the world come to the Metro Detroit area for many reasons. While many can speak some English, rarely is it their native language. These people often need opportunities to come and meet in groups, to practice English, while also having an opportunity to make friends and grow their network.

Our English as a Second Language, or ESL, program started with ZERO participants on the first day of class but has grown to dozens of people who join in person and online to improve their English and make new friends with their neighbors who are also in a similar situation. This space has become a refuge for them where they can feel confident and safe to make mistakes as they learn.

Prayer Prompt

Lord, we pray for people to feel encouraged and learn more about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God’s word. We pray for those leading and organizing the classes, gatherings, and activities to be Spirit led. We pray for the ESL families who are learning new languages. May they feel safe and secure in these classrooms as they work to be heard and understood. May God use these rooms to help create healthy, God-centered families and marriages as small groups gather in these spaces. We ask this all in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Thankful for the space we used for our Young Adults leaders retreat here and across the rest of the campus!
